ROYAL MAIL NEW CHARGES (PIP)
From 21st August 2006 Royal Mail will be
introducing a new pricing system, called “Pricing in Proportion”. This
change will have an impact on every piece of mail that they handle,
including your own privately stamped mail (Birthday/Christmas cards and
letters etc.), as the new charging method takes into account both the
weight and size of the item you are posting. This is because the Royal
Mail say that size is now a key factor in the cost of handling and
delivering mail, especially those items which cannot be processed
through their automated system (sorting machinery).
Everyone can help reduce the cost
by checking the mail that they regularly send out, re-evaluate the
format of affected mail and assess their ability to fold, re-design or
change local practises to use C5/A5 envelopes instead of C4/A4 (or even
larger) envelopes.
I can only fill envelopes to 5mm
thickness that are on a standard stamp, this equates to about 12-14
regular cards
In simple terms if a letter is larger
than C5 or thicker than 5mm, regardless of weight, the amount of postage
required will increase by at least 30%.
